At the Same Time!

This last weekend, I happened to mention that I once lived in the Bahamas.
Nadine Cooper, a woman at our table, said,
"I was born in Nassau, Bahamas."

Wonder of wonders, her family (which had come from Belize for just a couple years) was living in Nassau at the very time that my family was in Nassau. Her aunt worked in the same hospital where my mother was getting her midwifery training. My mother might have delivered her!

Nadine told me that her parents attended a Brethren church and were associated with a Christian school. (We haven't confirmed any specifics, yet, but it gave me chills of amazement.)

Here is an article about Kingsway Academy
where my father taught
and where I first attended school.
(In the class picture of 1967,
I am the blond haired little girl
sitting on the far left.)
(My father, John Beverly, is in a 1968 picture.)

Why have our paths crossed... twice?
I don't know, but it makes life so interesting!

I Will Praise the Lord at All Times

Facebook says I have 580 friends.

I have childhood friends,

and student friends,

and church friends,

and neighbor friends,

and family friends,

and writer friends,

and new friends,

and a some that are just special friends.

I could always use a few more....
will you be my friend?

My First Born

Today is my firstborn's birthday.

She was so beautiful when she was born.
(and still so pretty!)

We named her Grace,
after both of her great-grandmothers.
She has filled my life with joy.

Being the eldest child isn't always easy.
She was expected to grow up quickly,
but she stepped into the role with ease.
She loved each new brother and sister
and became a second mother to the younger ones.

Grace was a tease,
from the time she was a toddler -
spinning her brother in his swing
or dousing someone
with water.

Grace has always been a student.
She knew her alphabet at 18 months,
and has continued her education way beyond
high school - just finishing her RN training.

When Matt came into her life, she was so happy.
I'm sure he'll be discovering
the many facets of her personality
for years to come.

Elegant
Adventurous
Witty
Knowledgeable
Tender
Musical
Organized
Personable
Athletic
Sensitive

That's my Grace!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I LOVE YOU!

A New Identity

Today's Monday Manna
is hosted by Joanne Sher
at An Open Book.
We are focusing on this verse -

"And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee,
and thou shalt prophesy with them,
and shalt be turned into another man."
(I Samuel 10:6, KJV)

Sometimes when a person is in danger, they are given a new identity. Their name is changed. Their job is changed. Even their appearance is changed.

Did you ever wish you could start all over?

Do you wish you could just leave
your old life behind and begin again?

That's exactly what happens when you surrender to God's redemption. He declares your old sinful man to be dead, He washes away your sinful stains, and He sends your sinful past "as far as the east is from the west" and forgets it.

Then God gives you His own Spirit to live within you. He gives you new life and power to live a clean and holy life. He makes you a new creation!

Sadly, we choose to go back to our old habits and ways. We don't claim the power given to us to live a righteous life. We haven't lost it; it's still there, but we have ignored it and tucked it into a forgotten corner.

Thankfully, God is merciful and faithful and will forgive us. He wants to give us an abundant and joyful life.

Have seen His Spirit working in your life?
Have you claimed His power over sin?

Lord, may we see our sins as You see them - gone, washed away by the blood of the Lamb. May we live through the power of Your Spirit, a full and holy life. In Jesus' Name, Amen

Friday Fiction - Eternal Birth

The physical death of the children of God
is really their eternal birth.

ETERNAL BIRTH

Kelita flutters next to Shimron, the watcher, sitting on the city’s wall and peering through a golden scope. She strains to see what Shimron might be looking at, but can see nothing but blue oceans and green lands.

“Is it time yet?” Kelita asks.

“No, but it will be soon. The pains are stronger as it approaches the passing into eternal birth. Men call it death, but there is no death for the Preborns, the ones with the gift of life.”

“Pains? What are those?”

“Very uncomfortable irritations of their nervous system... It’s hard for me to observe it, but there is often pain before eternal birth.”

“Is it always that way?” Her forehead puckers in puzzlement and concern. Poor Kelita… She seems to have so much trouble understanding the things about man.

“No, sometimes, it happens very quickly, and there is no pain.”

“But, why would the Father….”

“No! You shouldn’t question the Father’s ways. He has his plans and reasons.”

Kelita squirms and fidgets. “Shimron, how long does it take for the Father’s children to be born? How long are they Preborns? I mean… after they get the gift of life?”

Shimron smiles to himself. He remembers asking the same questions ages ago, when he was first learning about men. “Each Preborn is different. There are not many who come home immediately after they receive the gift of life. Most must grow and develop characteristics like the Father. They also produce fruit, so that others will know of the life, too. This one has been a Preborn for over eighty earth years.”

“Isn’t it dangerous for them in the evil world?”

“Not really. They sometimes feel that they are in danger, but the Father is watching and caring for them. They also have the protection and care of other older, mature Preborns. The power of evil is strong in the world, but they shouldn’t be afraid; because the Father has given them all they need to withstand any of its attacks.”

“May I look through the scope?”

“I suppose, but not for long. I need to keep watching for the passing.” Shimron turns the scope and adjusts the focus. “Here’s something interesting. It’s a group of Preborns worshiping the Father.”

Kelita scrunches up his face and peers into the lens. “What are they singing? What do the words ‘sin’ and ‘redeemed’ mean? Who is the Lamb?”

“I’m not sure, but as far as I can tell, it has to do with the Son of the Father rescuing them from the Evil One and giving them the gift of life.”

Shimron squints into the scope again and turns it toward the birthing, “It won’t be long now! It’s so exciting to have a new child in the city.”

“Have you seen the new room?” Kelita giggles. “I peeked at it. I like the sparkly jewels in the ceiling. They look like stars.”

“Yes, isn’t it beautiful? The Father designs each one for the new arrival specifically.”

“Is this one a boy or girl?”

“A girl… She’s so beautiful!” smiles Shimron.

Kelita giggles again. “They are all beautiful; they look like the Father!”

Shimron peeks into the scope. “It’s time, time for the delivery!”

He clangs a string of silver bells, which alerts the gatekeepers. A crowd of greeters gather close to welcome the new arrival. The pearly doors swing wide and a gasp of awe ripples among the group. With excited rejoicing and singing, they follow the shining white robes of the deliverer until they all reach the feet of their Father.

Rejoice! A child of the King is home!
Gone is the time of suffering and sorrows;
Gone are the yesterdays, only tomorrows.
Forgotten fears, forgotten strife;
Eternal years, eternal life.
Rejoice! A child of the King is home!

A hushed silence pervades the iridescent arches. The multitude waits and watches as the newborn is placed in his strong, but gentle, hands. The Father’s eyes mist, as he looks down at his daughter. He holds her close, as a Shepherd cradling a lamb, and sings a quiet melody just for her.

Looking at her face, he says, “I name you, Michri, my Precious. I give to you eternal life, and you shall never perish. Neither will you know pain, nor sorrows, anymore. You will dwell with me, and I will dwell with you forever.”

"First" by Evelyn Bryant

"First"
by
Evelyn Bryant

Guilty of sin, yet forgiven,
I bear the burden no more;
Guilty, unworthy of Heaven,
Yet God did His mercy out-pour
On me, like the dew of the morning,
Falling on flowers that thirst,
His great love surely brings comfort
To my heart where He longs to be first.

First in all of my doings,
First in all I say,
First in all my pursuings,
First in my heart every day.

God grant me the will to listen,
God grant me the will to do
All things in manner pleasing
To Him till this life is through;
Then gladly let me go meet Him,
With joy that seems it must burst,
With love and longing to greet Him,
In the heart where He ever is first.

First in all of my doings,
First in all I say,
First in all my pursuings,
First in my heart every day.

Ordinary Lives. From a 2 z 4 u & me

My heart is feeling low this week.

One of the dearest persons I've known has moved.
She took a trip to heaven.

Evelyn Bryant was the grandmother of the whole church. She never missed a service. She never missed a day to pray for each and every one of us. She made sure birthdays and anniversaries were remembered. She wrote faithfully to the ones in college or the armed service.

We were all her "children."

Evelyn Bryant was a great cook. (She should be; she worked in a kitchen for many years.) She made a super apple pie and raspberry cake. She was a poet, and all of them reflected her love for her Lord.

She was a student. She memorized Scripture and learned to use Strong's concordance to cross reference the original Greek and Hebrew meanings.

Evelyn was a tease. She had a joke for you almost every week. She loved to play Scrabble, and taught me a new word every time we played. She'd help me if I was stuck, until we got down to the last few tiles; then I was on my own!

When my daughter named her first child "Evelyn," Mrs. Bryant was tickled pink. At first she said, "Now, why did you go and give her name like that?" Then she said to the baby, "You've got the prettiest name ever." (and she does...because it reminds us of a beautiful woman)

Yes, we are sad, for the world has lost something precious, but we are also happy, because Evelyn is where she has been longing to be for a long time.

Monday Manna - Running, not Shuffling

I am hosting Monday Manna today, where we meet to together to study a portion of God's Word. You may link to your blog with thoughts on this verse (with the Linky at the bottom of this page), or you may add a comment.

"Thou hast enlarged my steps under me,
that my feet did not slip." (Psalm 18:36)

Have you ever walked on a log that was suspended above a stream or on a narrow board high above the ground? The higher you are the narrower the board seems to be. Your head gets dizzy. You shuffle one inch at a time. You begin to flair your arms about and finally lose your balance.

If that same board was put on the ground, you could probably walk easily across it. You might even be able to run without any trouble.

Why?

It's a matter of the mind.

When you look at the danger, you lose your confidence and your balance. When the danger is eliminated, then so is the fear.

It reminds me of when Peter walked on the water. When he looked at the storm, he sank into waves, but when he looked at Jesus, all fear was gone.

"Thou hast enlarged my steps under me."

When we trust in God, knowing He will take care of the dangers, then it is as if He has widened the board beneath our feet. No longer is it a narrow beam, it is a wide plain where our feet are sure as we run with confidence.
