Rhyming Picture Book Month

I'm loving all the advice and encouragement
in being part of this group this month.
to see what I've done so far this month.

Maseppequa's Sweeping Song

Maseppequa’s Sweeping Song

Granny’s cooking supper,
Phoebe's gathering eggs
Dirt’s flying everywhere, over floor pegs
Ondas! Come to me, guided by the broom
Broom thumps against the floor, makes pretty tune
Ondas! Dirt come here, pizan! Come here
Like my little Phoebe, you’re flying everywhere!
All the dirt is gathered near the steps
Flying to the greeting? grass should come next
Near the door! Lose some dirt, give ‘nother try
Outside, sun shine, gray phoebe fly
Butch, Shadow bark and whine
Clucking hens keeping time
Chickadees “Chickadee”
To the barnyard symphony
Dirt soon to join the song
Ondas, dirt! Move along
Good smells from the soup
Phoebe fly in from the coop
Granny sets some dishes down
Basket with eggs white and round
Broom and I get dirt from floor
One mighty push and out the door!

BIRTHDAYS

I have the most wonderful group of friends
over at Faithwriters.

At first, I was hesitant to join an online group.
(Aren't we all warned about making cyber friends?)
But I soon realized that this group was safe and loving
and that they thought just like I did.
(Scary, huh?)

I attended a conference a few summers ago,
and we noticed that many of us had August birthdays.
Hardly a day in the month was void of a Faithwriter birthday.
(It's like a huge party all month long.)

Every year, my family asks me what I want for my birthday.
(which happens to be tomorrow)
Most of the time, what I want is not affordable or practical.
This year is no different,
but maybe I can whittle it down to a reasonable wish.

I wish to renovate my bathroom.
(at least get started on it)
I'd love to make it into a woodsy, natural, rustic looking decor.
(with black bears and wood accents)
Doesn't that sound like fun?

B ...is also for a cute one-wheeled bicycle.
(which is a unicycle, of course)

There's a wonderful poem on Polliwog Pages today.

Head over to Peej's Patterings for more A2Z - B things.

Lovely Bubble Poem

I love watching children grow and learn.

Eileen Armstrong has been writing for Polliwog Pages
for quite a few years, and she is getting better and better.
(click here to read her writings)

She has submitted 15 stories and has earned a copy of
"A Bag of Bubble Gum"

Here is a beautiful and imaginative poem by Eileen Armstrong.
(I think we a great Faithwriter in the making.)

The Summer Writing Contest has been exciting and fun.
We have 4 more weeks left to enter,
and perhaps to win a t-shirt.

Daycamp Week!

The highlight of every summer is our church's week of daycamp.

Pray for safety.
(games, slip n'slide)

Pray for good attitudes.
(teachers and students)

Pray for souls to be saved.
(Theme - Learning About Christ our King)

The Polliwog Pages Summer Contest started well.

to read last week's entry.

Being a PK

Being a PK (preacher's kid) has its trials.
(I know, I was a PK once.)
But it also has its wonderful benefits.

Read how this new PK Polliwog Kid sees her father.

I wrote this article, showing how my daddy's daily life was a sermon to me.

DADDY'S SERMONS

Come, Darling. Come to Daddy. Walk to me. You can do it.

“He hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace…”

Trust me, Darling. Jump. I won’t drop you. The water isn’t very deep. Trust me.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

You want to help me? Well, pretty soon I’ll need somebody to hold the end of the board steady while I cut it. So, don’t go far. Listen for my call.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

Sh-sh. I’m here, Darling. Don’t be afraid. The lights will come back on soon. I’ll stay with you until then. How about I tell you a story?

“…He will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee; fear not, neither be dismayed.”

Once upon a time, there was a man with a hundred sheep, but one sheep…

“The Lord is my shepherd…”

“Hello, Mrs.Chadbourne? It’s me, Pastor Phillips. I’d like you to meet my daughter.

“Pure religion and undefiled before God is this; to visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction…”

Would you like to take a walk with me and watch the meteor shower? Oh yes, I saw it! Look, there’s another one. Just think... God knows the name of each one of them.

“Be still and know that I am God.”

Are you getting tired? We’re almost home. Here, sit up on my shoulders. Is that better?

“The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms…”

I know what you’re thinking, Darling. You wish you could have a new bike, too. I don’t know if we can afford it. You ought to be thankful for the one you have.

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

I made something for you. Open your eyes! What do you think? I made it to look just like Grammy’s house. You really like it? I thought you would.

“Now unto Him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think..”

Young lady, don’t let me hear you talking to your mother like that again! You go apologize to her. You are just getting a little too big for your britches!

“Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the earth…”

You don’t need to do everything that other kids are doing. I don’t care what other families do; you are part of this family.

“…I will be their God and they shall be my people; wherefore come out from among them and be ye different…”

I’m sorry, but you disobeyed me… This hurts me as much as it hurts you. You are my daughter. I love you.

“For whom he Lord loveth, he chasteneth…”

Ask your mother if there is enough spaghetti for one more? I found this fellow hanging around, and he looked hungry.

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.”

Wake up! It’s a beautiful day! The bus will be here in a half hour. Have a good day, Darling, and look for opportunities to serve the Lord.

“This is the day that the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.”

No, I don’t want you working today. It’s Sunday, the Lord’s Day. You’ll just have to tell your manager to change your schedule.

“Remember the sabboth day to keep it holy…”

I’m proud of you, Darling. You did the right thing, even though it was hard.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily unto the Lord and not unto men.”

Where have the years gone? It seems like you were my baby girl just yesterday. Now, you’re a young woman and leaving home.

“But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

I love you, Darling. I always will, no matter where you go or what you do. You are my daughter. I love you.

“Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love…”

An Historical Romance

Today's Polliwog Pages story
is an exciting romance set during the French Revolution.

The young author is one of my students of the Polliwog Writing Lessons. She is learning and improving quickly as she moves from lesson to lesson.

Please leave a comment on her story.

Zoo Time!

Maine doesn't have a big zoo - with zebras and giraffes and polar bears - but when we went to California to visit our grandchildren, we went to the San Diego Zoo.

That was a great day!

Of course, I like the giraffes the best.

Today's Polliwog Kid wrote about going to the zoo.

Super Saturday

A Thoughtful and Touching Poem

As children mature, their thoughts become deeper and their writing becomes richer. Here is a new Polliwog Kid and her poem is beautiful.

Hopping on a Train

Today's Polliwog Kid story
made me think of the Sunday School song-

"Join the Gospel Express,
Come along and say, 'yes'
We're leaving for Glory soon;
And the guard is glad, he waving His flag;
'Hallelujah!, it won't be very long.'
'Peep, Peep, Peep,' goes the whistle.
'Toot, Toot, Toot,' goes the train,
'Chug, chug, chug,' goes the engine,
And we're off on the Gospel Train."
(written by Michael Gilkes)

A Big Day!

Today, and the rest of this week, I will be at the
Homeschoolers of Maine Convention.

You can find me teaching a workshop
"Crayons to Characters - Making Writing Fun"

and having a booth in the exhibit hall
promoting the Polliwog Writing Lessons,
selling my books,

(If you can't be at the convention,
you can find these books at Full Sail Books or at Amazon .)

I'll be offering a FREE e-book,

and making lots of new friends and
(hopefully) new Polliwog Kids.

Learning to Write

Sometimes we have to try writing in genres we don't really like,
but that helps us grow and stretch and improve our skills.

I liked the honesty of this young (and talented) student.
(This is Zachoia's 10th entry
and has earned her a Polliwog notebook!)
