Toys, Toys, Toys

Toys have come a long way since my kids were little.

This last week, my daughter and her husband came back to Maine. Their baby is six months old and loves his toys. They'll flash lights and sing and squeak whenever he bumps or pulls them. He loves his cuddly stuffed animals and cardboard books, too. He loves anything that rattles. We laugh as he shakes the daylights out of a teddy bear, trying to make it rattle. Already the house shows evidence of a baby on board.

One of my children's favorite toy was the Johnny Jumper. We wore out three of them. Some gently bounced, others swung to and fro. Another spun herself in circles, like a ballerina doing pirouettes.

As they got older, they liked wagons and scooter cars. Blocks and puzzles and dolls were standard favorites. I can't wait to buy my grandaughter a baby doll. They are so cute and lifelike now.

Swingsets and tire swings got well used, besides bicycles and Tonka trucks.

Legos, Matchbox cars, and plastic soldiers seemed to show up in the strangest places, but now I kind of miss them.

I have six months until Christmas, right? Oh the joys of buying toys. Isn't that what grandparents are for?

Not only are you blessed with grandkids, but you can buy (or make) toys for them too! Sunny

Oh,..I love dolls. I just took a granddaughter birthday shopping and one thing she picked was a baby doll that made sucking noises as she drank her pretend bottle of milk. She cooed and giggled and cried and snored and closed her eyes,..oh and she burped too. It was really life like.

I enjoyed it as much as she did!

Good Post!

The toys through the generations change so much. The toys we've had around most for the last 18 years are swords, tinker toys, and baby dolls, although my little boys LOVE light sabers too.

Have fun being a grandma! I can't believe it but I don't think I'm too far off - having a 19 and 16 year old - could be a matter of a few years! :)

Enjoy your Sunday afternoon!
