Blessings Upon Blessings

My friend (and editor) Rose Cothren, has been visiting this week. After a rainy summer, we have had one glorious sunshiney day after another. One of our stops on our long list of things to do and see was a whale watch. I have dreamed of seeing a whale and was so excited that my wish would finally come true.

We "sailed" out beyond the islands into the open water of the Gulf of Maine (never did that before) to where the whales feed. Our tour guide taught us many things about the marine wildlife and the history of the lighthouses and such, but we didn't see but one whale - and that was small one that surface only a couple of times.

While we stared at the "empty" water, I was impressed by the immensity of the ocean. I was only seeing a tiny portion of it. Words of hymns flooded my mind....all speaking of God's great love for me being like an ocean . . . and I knew that is only a drop compared to His love.

I know God was teaching me yesterday. Not only has He been pouring blessings on me day after day, He was showing His great love for me. On top of that, we were presented with free tickets to return anytime we wanted to go again...anytime! (Rose has promised to come back again someday, and we'll go again.) Not only did I have a relaxing cruise, with a time of fellowship with God, He gave me another chance to see a whale.

"Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry,
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

The love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure
The saints' and angels' song."
