Monday Manna - Good for You

I'm participating in Monday Manna (every 1st & 3rd week)- thoughts on a Scripture chosen by Joanne Sher .

This week's verse is -

Psalm 72:18
"Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel,
who only doeth wondrous things."

Our God created magnificent waterfalls and rainbows and even tiny ladybugs. He controls the planets and stars. He melts the hardest hearts.

But...He also controls the things we may not like.

The word "only" in this verse tells us more of God's characteristics. Yes, God is in control of ALL that happens to us. No, God did not create pain and evil, but he sometimes uses it for His will. It is for our good - to teach us, to humble us, to bring us closer to himself.

Think of caring for your children. Did they like eating their vegetables or getting immunizied or being punished? It was for their good.

God loves us more than we could ever love our chidren. He sees the outcome of His plans. He knows what experiences are necessary to shape us into what we should be.

When we can learn to rest in God's will, when we can stop blaming Him for our situations, when we can trust Him to take care of the future... then we can have true peace.

Amen, Vonnie :) It's hard to see it this way - but it is SO true. Thanks for participating!

Very practical and sensible illustration. Why do we let our kids ride bikes when we know it'll hurt to fall off? Thank you.

And I think this is at the root of so much disbelief in our world. How could a good God let bad things happen? If people could just trust that God knows what He's doing...

C. S. Lewis wrote an excellent book on this topic called THE PROBLEM OF PAIN if anyone wants to dig deeper.
