"Do You Believe?"

It's a new year...
a new beginning...
a new chapter!

Memorizing Scripture is important.

Psalm 119:11 says, "Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee." (Psalm 1:2) "But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law doth he meditate day and night."

How can God speak to us if we don't hide His Word in our hearts? How can we think of it throughout the day and night, if it is not there? How can it comfort us...teach us and guide us... or be used to help others?

Each week I plan to learn a new verse of John 14. I will "recite" what I have learned before and give a short study on the next one. I invite you to join me. You may email me your "recitation" or put it as a comment below the post. I am using the KJV version. If you are using another, please let me know.

John 14:1

"Let not your heart be troubled;
ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Most people in the world would say,
"I believe in God."

Satan and his demon recognize there is a God.
(James 2:19)"Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."

People say they believe, but they don't want to be accountable to God. They don't fear the Creator of the universe. They won't admit their own unworthiness before Him. They don't believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

"...ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Some may say that Jesus was a good man, but a good man would not lie. Over and over again Jesus said that He was God. He showed His power through miracle after miracle. He knew things and taught things that only God could know. Jesus is God. Without believing this, a person cannot believe in God.

Jesus wants us to trust Him, trust His words, trust His promises- as much as we would trust God the Father...for they are One.

Indeed, your question points to how people view the leading of God within their own lives, does it not? Do I need the Scriptures to lead me, or do I merely need my own inclinations to do so? If I need the word than I must go about the business of not only reading/studying, but also "carrying" it with me throughout the day.

The question of "believing in God" recently came up in Sunday School. Isn't amazing how God often has His people discussing and learning the same things, no matter where they are? I'm so glad Lynnette chose you for this week's blog. I have enjoyed looking around.
