Times are Changing- My 10 in '10

Can you believe that tomorrow begins 2010?

I can remember an assignment in school asking us to write about what we thought life would be like in the year 2000. Almost everyone said we'd have flying cars. (not yet...but we have GPS) Some said we'd have phones on our wrists like Dick Tracy. (not quite...they're in our pockets or in our ears.) Some said we'd be living on the moon or Mars. (not yet either...but we have a space station and HUBBLE telescope and have sent probes to Mars) Today we have other things today we never imagined. (microwaves, internet, fleece, laser surgery and other medical advances, digital cameras, etc.)

When children ask, "You were born in the 1900's?" Why does it make us feel so much older? On the other hand, my son just bought a house built in 1830. People cooked and ate and slept and lived in those very rooms! I'm sure they never dreamed others would be living there almost 200 years later. It boggles the mind, doesn't it?

We don't do a lot to celebrate the New Year. We sometimes gather for fellowship of boardgames and singing. We usually go to bed before midnight. I don't always make New Year's resolutions, but this year I decided to write out my priorities of my time. Here are TEN things I want to do each day in 2010.

My 10 in '10

1. BIBLE
I want to read a chapter of the Bible each day and memorize John 14.

2. MORNING SONG
I plan to continue sending the words of an old-fashioned hymn to others each morning Just typing them blesses me, too.

3. JEWEL
I want to read and comment on someone else's writing each day, to encourage them in their writing journey.

4. BLOG
Posting something on my blog keeps me accountable in my writing and Bible memorization. If I don't report to someone, I tend to let things slide.

5. WRITE
Writing is my job now. For a few days, I've been perplexed as to what ideas to pursue this year. I've decided I need to finish projects I've started before tackling new ones. I'll post them on my sidebar to show my progress.

6. HOME
When I become immersed in a writing project or just spend time on the internet, I become blind to my house around me. I want to fix up the kids' rooms now that they've moved out. I want to paint and re-arrange things and decorate.

7. PEOPLE
I could easily become a hermit, but I know it's not right. Each day, I plan to reach out to someone NOT on the computer, either call someone on the phone or mail a card or visit someone in person. It's hard for me to make the effort, but I know God wants me to.

8. WALK
I need to move my legs. I need to feel the sun and wind. I need exercise. (If I lose weight, that will be an extra bonus.)

9. READ
I'd like to spend more time reading. I need to set aside time to read those classics I've always wanted to experience. I have shelves of books that call to me to open them and enjoy old "friends" and make new ones.

10. RANDY
Our house is very quiet with all the kids gone. It's seems extra quiet this week after everyone came home for Christmas and left again. I want to focus part of each day on my husband. Maybe it will be just sitting and watching a movie with him or baking him a pumpkin pie or taking a walk. I want to refresh our relationship and make our times together better and better.

Can you think of ten things you want to do this year? What is your 10 in '10?

Thanks for sharing your list, Vonnie. My husband has the same name as yours so I must say the list seemed a little pointed :). In fact, the whole thing did ... guess I have no excuses now so I'm off to start tackling the list!

This is an amazing list, some of the items were not just inspirational but a bit convicting. I could be a hermit too, with great success, I'm sure. Thank you for sharing! May God bless you richly as you continue to pursue Him in 2010.
