A Great Jubilee Year

Last year, I was dreading my upcoming 50th birthday. Didn't that mean I was getting old? Then a friend Dee Yoder said, "But this is your Jubilee Year!" That thought changed everything. Yes, it was certainly a good name for this last year.

When God gave his laws to the Israelites, the number seven was very important. Each seventh day (sabbath) was a day of rest. During the seventh year, the land was left fallow and rested. After every seven sevens (49 years) land was given back to its owners, and slaves were freed. It was a time of beginnings of rejoicing. The 50th year was the Year of Jubilee, of new beginnings!

I found this site very interesting. Many of the "big" Biblical events happened during the years of Jubilee. The Year of Jubilee God created time. History is in His hands.

I had a great personal Jubilee Year. It was a year of blessings and beginnings for me. It was my first year of being a grammy and my first year of feeling like a writer instead of a teacher. My interests are changing. I'm meeting new friends and learning new skills. My husband and I are rediscovering our love for each other after the children have grown. We digging out old dreams and making new ones.

I'm kind of sad to see this year end. It's been a wonderful year! I'm looking forward to my next 50 years...if the Lord allows me to live that long. If not, what a Jubilee there will be with Him in glory!

Happy Jubilee to you, Vonnie. Thanks for stopping by. We recently covered some of this in our SS class with the core curriculum we use. I learned so much.

As children of God, we always have reason to celebrate. Each year is a gift from his hands. How thankful I am to experience new and exciting life experiences as I grow older.

peace~elaine
