What Do You Know?

Today, I'm participating in Monday Manna, hosted by Joanne at An Open Book . The verse chosen is:

"You will be his witness to all men of what you have seen and heard."
Acts 22:15

The word witness is something, not always a person, that reminds us of something important. A pile of stones was often a witness in the Bible. So that when their children asked the meaning of the stones, they could relate how God did a marvelous thing in that spot. Today we have monuments, remembering heroes and battles. In New England, you can find many stone walls, showing the old boundaries.

We usually think of a witness as a person who sees a crime or accident. They are not to make any judgmental opinions, only state what they know. Some witnesses are good witness. They have a trustworthy reputation. You can depend on their word. Others don't seem to know what they know. It changes every time a new question is asked.

What kind of Christina witness are we?

Do we know the truth? Can we tell others about God and the Bible?

We don't need to have a college degree in theology to be a good witness. I have seen small children, as young as five years old, explain the way of salvation. As we mature spiritually, we should be able to answer more specific questions with confidence.

Do you know how to answer these?

"What happens to us after we die?"
"Why is there so much hate and pain in the world, if God is so loving?"
"What does baptism mean?"
"Is there a real heaven and hell?"

These are common questions about our faith. Are we good witnesses? Can we answer them?

Maybe you aren't asked any questions. You can still be a witness. The way you talk, the clothes you wear, the friends you hang out with, even the places you go should shout out that you are different. Your lifestyle should clearly show that you know God. Your actions will speak louder and have more impact that if you told everyone around you about the Lord. If you are known as gossip or thief or slacker, then your words will mean nothing.

Your walk talks,
And your talk talks;
But walk talks louder
Than your talk talks!

Lord, let us abide so close to You that our lives reflect Your ways. May we be ready to answer those that would ask us about our faith. May we be good witnesses for You. In Jesus' Name, Amen

Yes yes! Our witness is so much more than what we specifically say about the Lord. Thanks for the reminder - AND for participating in Monday Manna!

Excellent! I love the reminder of how even stones are used to testify to God's goodness.

This really helped in two ways:

1. Your definition of witness gives a better perception for me. The example of questions you gave make it tangible.

2. Referencing how we live our lives as Christians REALLY jumped out because of what I'd gone thru two weeks ago while visiting family.

Thanks

smooches,
Larie
