He Chose Me!

Starting today, each Tuesday, I am posting another verse of John 15 (Vine and Branches). I will "recite" what we have learned so far. When I have reached verse 18, I will start again from there...then putting them together later, when we have finished the chapter. If you wish to join me in this challenge, you can either email your "recitation" or post it as a comment. (Let me know if you see any mistakes that I miss.)

John 15:1-15
(without looking at my Bible)

1. I am the true vine and my Father is the husbandman.
2. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, He taketh away;
and every branch that beareth fuit,
he purgeth that it may bring forth more fruit.
3. Now ye are clean through the word
which I have spoken unto you.
4. Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5. I am the vine, and ye are the branches.
He that abideth in me and my words abide in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit;
for without Me ye can do nothing.
6. If a man abide not in me,
he is cast forth as a branch and is withered,
and men gather them and cast them out,
and they are burned.
7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.
8. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bring forth much fruit,
so shall ye be my disciples.
9. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you;
continue ye in my love.
10. If ye keep my commmandments, ye shall abide in my love;
even as I have kept my Father's commandments
and abide in His love.
11. These things have I spoken unto you
that my joy might remain in you
and that your joy might be full.
12. This is my commandment that ye love one another
as I have loved you.
13. Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I have commanded you.
15. Henceforth, I call ye no more servants, but friends,
for a servant knoweth not what his lord doeth;
but I have shown unto you all that
the Father hath made known unto Me.

CORRECTIONS:looked twice, vs.2 "it",vs.5 "and I in him", vs.6 "into the fire",vs.15 but friends "for all things that I have heard of my Father"

John 15:16
"Ye have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you,
that ye should go and bring forth fruit,
and that your fruit should remain;
that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name,
he may give it you."

One potato, two potato, three potato, four;
Five potato, six potato, seven potatoes more.
My mother told me to pick the very best one,
And you are the one to be "It"

I can hear the singsong chant in my head. We used this method often as children to choose who would be the one to chase us or find us. If you were smart you could figure out which person to start with, so that the desired outcome would be achieved. My non-mathematical brain could never figure it out. To me, it was chance.

A child that is adopted has a wonderful gift of being chosen. They have a home, a name, the benefits of belonging to a family--legally and emotionally.

We were chosen by God to part of His family. Sometimes, we're told to choose Christ, to choose salvation, but that is wrong thinking. God knows who belongs to Him. We need only to submit to His will. He is calling us, drawing us to Himself.

What a wonderful thought--to know that God wants me and chooses me to work for Him. He doesn't have to use me, but He wants to. If I am not obedient, He will use someone else--but I want to be a useful child, a submissive and helpful child of my Father.

"...that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name,
he may give it you."

When my children wanted an ice cream after school, they would come in my classroom for some money. I didn't give money to any child that asked, but I gave it to my children. We can go to the Father because we are His child. He loves us and will give us what we want. We have the right to do this only because we are bought by the blood of His Son. When God sees us, He sees His Son.

"I'm so glad I'm a part of the family of God;
I've been washed in the fountain, cleansed by His blood,
Joint-heirs with Jesus as we travel this sod;
For I'm part of the family, the family of God"
(by William J. Gaither)

Love Abounds At Home said...

I love adoption stories. My husband was adopted and I asked him what would he say if he ever met his biological mother. He said he would thank her for loving him enough to give him to his parents.
I'm so glad to be a part of the family of God.
