Asking Your Father

I want to learn more Scripture, to "hide it in my heart". I hope to learn John 15 (Vine and Branches) verse by verse. Each week I will add another verse, building the thoughts and teachings of this wonderful chapter.

Each Wednesday, I will "recite" what we have learned on my blog post. If you wish to join me in this challenge of learning this chapter verse by verse, you can either email your "recitation" or post it as a comment. (Let me know if you see any mistakes that I miss.)

Memorizing anything takes persistance. Read the verse everyday. Think about it. Write it down. Post it on a card, in a place that you look at often (the frig, bathroom mirror, etc.)Review previous verses often.

(Let me know if you are using something besides the King James Version.)

(without looking at my Bible)

John 15:1-6

"I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

Every branch in me that beareth not fruit, he taketh away; and (every) branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth that it may bring forth more fruit.

Now ye are clean through the word, which I have spoken unto you.

Abide in me and I in you; as the branch cannot bear fruit (of itself), except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

I am the vine, and ye are the branches, if ye abide (He that abideth) in me and I in you (him), the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me ye can do nothing.

If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and withereth; and men gather them and cast them into the fire, and they are burned."

(corrections: 5 errors- vs.2, vs.4, vs.5

NEW VERSE

John 15:7

"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you;
ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you."

What a wonderful promise!

God will do whatever we ask! Does that mean you could ask for a million dollars, and expect it to be in our bank account the next day? . . . not unless it's God's will for you to have a million dollars.

There's a condition to this promise. "if ye abide in me, and my words abide in you" When we are so close to God that we know Him, when His words are so a part of us that we know what He will say, then we will know what to ask.

When you were a child, if you asked your father for a pony, would he give it to you? Probably not. If you asked him for a new coat, would he give it to you? Yes, because you probably needed it.

Matthew 7:11
"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children;
how much more shall your Father, which is in heaven,
give good things to them that ask him?"

There are times when He gives us beyond what we really need. He doesn't have to bless us with the extra things, but sometimes he does because we are His children, and He loves us. We should not demand anything, but ask with the words, "if it is Your will, Lord", for He knows what's best for us. We should accept His answer gratefully.

Lord, teach us to pray believing and trusting You. Help us to be so close to You that we will know how to ask according to Your will. Thank you for all the blessing You shower on us each day. In Jesus' Name, Amen

I "popped" in (referencing your popcorn cartoon) because I just read your comments on both Rachelle Gardner's and Mary DeMuth's blogs. As a Midwestern farm girl (transplanted and firmly rooted now in Florida), my heart responded to the weathered window's view into a homey kitchen. Very well-designed and interesting blog. I'm a follower!

It was hard for me to first understand what it meant to pray in God's will because of this verse and others about having faith when asking.

I like the way you explained this.

smooches,
