Genesis 14:18 "And Melchizedek, King of Salem, brought forth bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most high God."
Hebrews 7:2,3 "To whom (Melchizedek) also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpertation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is King of peace; without father, witout mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually."
I've been facinated with Melchizedek. Who is this man whom Abraham honored? What did Abraham see that prompted these actions? How many others, in that time, worshiped "the most high God"? Did Abraham recognize God, his friend?
King of righteousness, King of peace...it sounds like Isaiah 9:6 "His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace."
Was this an appearance of Jesus before his birth in Bethlehem? Is it a picture of when He will sit on the throne in Jeru-Salem again, in the millineum?
Who else could it be? Abraham talked with him, saw him face to face...wow!

Yes, he is one of the most mysterious and fascinating characters in the Old Testament, mainly because he appears, does one small thing, and then vanishes into thin air. Was he of Persian descent? Was he Oriental? Where did he get the idea to place bread and wine on an altar in the middle of the desert and offer it to God? Did he roam around the desert doing this all his life? Is he truly a human, or was he something else...? Well, Yvonne, I could go on and on as we all know, but this great high priest has always fascinated me. Do we all feel a short story coming on????
