Monday Manna - The Trumpet Shall Sound

I am hosting Monday Manna today, where we meet to together to study a portion of God's Word. You may link to your blog with thoughts on this verse (with the Linky at the bottom of this page), or you may add a comment.

"Blow ye the trumpet in Zion,
and sound the alarm in my holy mountain;
let all the inhabitants of the land tremble,
for the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand."
(Joel 2:1)

I have heard of the various Jewish feasts established in the books of the law, which are celebrated by Jews all over the world even today, but not until the last few years have I seen the connection of the feasts to the major events of prophecy.

The Feast of the Passover - Christ's death, the Lamb of God
The Feast of the First Fruits - Christ's resurrection
The Feast of Pentecost - Christ's gift of the Holy Spirit

Over the last week, I have studied more about these feasts, especially Rosh Hashanah, the "day of beginnings." Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the Jewish new year.

I don't pretend to know much about the history and traditions of this high holiday, but I found it very fascinating. It marks a time of repentance and putting away of sins in preparation of the Day of Atonement, which is ten days later. I also found it exciting to learn that the blowing of the shofar or ram's horn is a big part of this holiday.

(Read this for more information.)

Verse after verse that mention trumpets flooded my thoughts.
Trumpets are a big part of the end times.

Trumpets will announce His coming.
"Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed-in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed." (I Corinthians 4:15,16)

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first."
(I Thessalonians 4:16)

Trumpets will announce judgments.
"And I saw the seven angels who stand before God, and to them were given seven trumpets." (Revelation 8:2)

God's voice is the sound of a trumpet.
"I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet, saying, 'I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last..."
(Revelation 1:10,11)

No one knows exactly when or how
God will bring about the end of the world,
but...

We know that it will come.

We know that there will be a judgement day.

For those who have received His gift of eternal life, we know that our judgement for sin has already been paid. When we hear His trumpet, we will be caught up to be with Him forever and ever.

Are you ready?
Are you listening for the trumpet sound?

Listening to the shofar was one of my very favorite parts of Rosh Hashanna. And remembering what it is to remind us of is my favorite now.. Thanks for hosting, Vonnie!
