Poetry - "First"

"First"
by
Evelyn Bryant

Guilty of sin, yet forgiven,
I bear the burden no more;
Guilty, unworthy of Heaven,
Yet God did His mercy outpour
On me, like the dew of the morning,
Falling on flowers that thirst,
His great love surely brings comfort
To my heart where He longs to be first.

First in all of my doings,
First in all I say,
First in all my pursuings,
First in my heart every day.

God grant me the will to listen,
God grant me the will to do
All things in manner pleasing
To Him till this life is through;
Then gladly let me go meet Him,
With joy that seems it must burst,
With love and longing to greet Him,
In the heart where He ever is first.

First in all of my doings,
First in all I say,
First in all my pursuings,
First in my heart every day.

Evelyn Bryant is the "praying grandmother"
of our church family (and a great poet).
She truly puts the Lord first in her life.
We are blessed to have her in our lives.
