Monday Manna - "Yes, Lord"

I am hosting Monday Manna today, where we meet to together to study a portion of God's Word. You may link to your blog with thoughts on this verse (with the Linky at the bottom of this page), or you may add a comment.

"Only fear the LORD,
and serve Him in truth
with all your heart:
for consider how great things
He hath done for you."
(I Samuel 24:24 KJV)

I am pleased that my daughter is teaching her son to obey. After a time of discipline, my daughter makes sure the stubborn toddler understands the rules. The words "Yes, Mama" are repeated. He obeys for awhile, but sometimes he is drawn back to what got him in trouble in the first place.

He hasn't learned to fear the consequences. He hasn't truly submitted to his mother's authority. The words were only words. He didn't really mean it. Yes, he's only a toddler, but eventually he must learn to obey in "fear", in "truth", and "with all his heart." If he learns it now, as a child, it will be easier for him to submit later on.

When we know what God wants us to do, we may say, "Yes, Lord," and obey for awhile. But often, we are drawn back into our old ways.

God wants us to fear Him - to realize who He is, in all His power and authority. He wants us to respond in truth - not just mouthing the words, but to mean what we say. He wants us to obey with our whole heart - to desire to please him in all our actions and thoughts.

When we stop to think of all He has given us, how can we NOT give our all to Him?

Can we say, "Yes, Lord"
and truly mean it?

Great reminder - and yes, I'm JUST like that sometimes. Yes, Lord - and this time I MEAN it :)
