Photo Gallery: Pre-Reading

My grandson, Carter, loves books. His mother has read to him since he was a newborn. He is getting old enough to turn the cardboard pages by himself and makes sounds for some of the animals. As a teacher and writer, this excites me!

I can see the reading process in its early stages. He'll soon learn that the pages (or words) say the same thing every time someone reads them. He'll soon memorize them. After awhile, he'll learn that the letters and words mean something. Before long he'll be reading books for himself. Then the world will open up to him, taking him on adventures beyond his imagination. Perhaps, someday, he'll write a book himself.

Isn't it beautiful to see early what you are teaching them. I read to my children and now our granddaughter from birth and they "all" love to read and write.

Blessings, andrea

...the love of books...Oh, the simple joys of a shiny cardboard colorful pictures and a cute story. I remember the joy of my oldest children "Showing Grandma" how they could read their first book, (when we knew the pages were memorized)...but that is all in the whole joy process...so much fun, enjoy! With you as Grandma, they will be reading novels and writing sooner and later!
