Monday Manna "FREE SERVANTS"

Monday Manna is a group of bloggers, each writing about what a chosen verse means to them. If you wish to participate or read more, go to Joanne's Open Book , the coordiator of Monday Manna.

I Peter 2:16
"Live as free men, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness,
but as the servants of God."

Our country boasts of our freedoms. We have the freedom of speech and religion and assemble, plus many more. Sadly these freedoms are unappreciated and abused. Many "free" Americans are slaves- slaves to sin and self. They lie and cheat and hate. They are boastful and selfish, not knowing that spiritually they have no rights. They want more and more, but they don't really have anything. They are not really free.

Others, who live in lands ruled by communism, may be hindered politically to worship openly. Yet, they are free- free from the power and penalty of sin. They have the power of God's Spirit within them to love and forgive. Instead of hate and selfishness, they have joy and contentment. They have no fear of death or God's judgment. They are truly free.

What is the difference? God's gift of salvation to all those who believe

When a person is grateful for a wonderful gift, they want to return that love. They will lovingly and cheerfully do anything for the giver. When we realize what a great gift God has give us, we willingly make ourselves servants of Him. We will gratefully do anything for Him, because He has made us free from the slavery of sin. We give up our selfish rights because His way is best.

Are you a "free servant" in Jesus?

"Make me a captive, Lord,
And then I shall be free;
Force me to render up my sword,
And I shall conqueror be;
I sink in life's alarms
When by myself I stand;
Imprison me within Thine arms,
And strong shall be my hand."

I'm not yet as grateful as I need to be, but I'm working on it. Our Father is so worthy of my best and deliberate obedience.

So many countries and peoples of different religions just can't understand this urge to be free by surrendering our lives to Christ! But what a difference it makes to walk in his light and have His guidance! Wonderful post, Vonnie.
