Bearing Fruit

Each Wednesday, I am posting another verse of John 15 (Vine and Branches). I will "recite" what we have learned so far. If you wish to join me in this challenge of learning this chapter verse by verse, you can either email your "recitation" or post it as a comment. (Let me know if you see any mistakes that I miss.)

Memorizing anything takes persistence. Read the verse everyday. Think about it. Write it down. Post it on a card, in a place that you look at often (the frig, bathroom mirror, etc.)Review previous verses often.

(without looking at my Bible)
John 15:1-7

"1.I am the true vine and my Father is the husbandman.

2.Every branch in me that beareth not fruit,
He taketh away, and every branch that beareth fruit,
He purgeth it,
that it may bring for more fruit.

3.Ye are clean through the word, which I have given unto you.

4. Abide in me, and I in you;
as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
except it abide in the vine;
no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5.I am the vine, and ye are the branches;
if ye abide in me and I in you,
the same bringeth forth much fruit,
for without me, ye can do nothing.

6. If a man abides not in me,
he is cast forth as a branch and is withered,
and men gather them and cast them into the fire,
and they are burned.

7.If ye abide in me and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will,
and it shall be done unto you.

(corrections:vs.5 "he that abideth in me, and I in him" vs. 6 "abide")

NEW VERSE

John 15:8

" Here in is my Father glorified,
that ye bear much fruit;
so shall ye be my disciples."

How is God glorified? It is by how others see His fruit in us. When others see us, do they see love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, self-control? Do our every action and word glorify our Father?

A disciple is a follower, an apprentice, someone who is learning to be like someone else.We say we belong to Him, then we should bear our "family's name" with honor. We should not do anything that will bring shame to it. Do we have the reputation of being His disciple?

John 13:35

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples,
if ye have love one to another."

Lord, keep me close to You, so that others don't see me, but You. Amen
