"Dear Vonnie" Fear of the Future

Each Saturday, I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. I don't pretend to be an expert, but I know it's not easy being a wife and mother. It can be frustrating and discouraging, yet very rewarding. I'd be glad to listen to you, pray for you, and share some of my thoughts with you.

So, ask me something...

Dear Vonnie,

What is your advice for those paralyzed with fear about job layoffs and the economy? There are people I care about who are glued to the financial channels and are depressed.

Signed,
Worried

Dear Worried,

This question hits quite close to home this week. My son-in-law's workplace laid off over 100 jobs today. Knowing it was coming, we prayed that he would keep his. God is great and he didn't lose his job. He is being transferred 12 hours away from here. It will be hard to see my daughter and their new baby go, but I have to remind myself of God's goodness.

That is the key. God is in control. Nothing takes Him by surprise...not the falling economy, not sickness, not a car accident, not the results of an election, not the death of a loved one, not anything. It may not be what we call "good", but He knows what is best for us...what will make us lean on Him more... what will teach us to trust Him... what will strengthen our inner soul... what will bring glory to His name.

"A man's heart deviseth his way,
but the Lord directeth his steps"
Proverbs 16:9

We can't know what the future holds, and we wouldn't want to know; but God knows all of time, from beginning to end. He knows how everything fits and works together. We should think of life as an adventure, with anticipation of the next experience God has in store for us. (I know...easy to say, hard to live...)

"O the depth of the riches
both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable are his judgments,
and his ways past finding out!"
Romans 11:33

So, we should trust in His care, not worrying about the things that will happen. Just as we could go to sleep in the car, while our dad was driving through a storm, we can rest in our Heavenly Father. He is taking good care of us!

"Therefore take no thought, saying,
'What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or,
Wherewithal shall we be clothed?'
Take therefore no thought for the morrow:
for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
Matthew 6:31,34

"Casting all your care upon Him,
for He careth for you."
I Peter 5:7
