Water Fun

Summertime means water fun.

Did you ever put on your bathing suit and play in the rain, stomping through puddles, and catching raindrops on your tongue...and nose and cheeks and squinched up eyes? It's fun to stand under the eaves let it splash over your head like a shower. Did you ever see an old fashioned rain barrel?

If it doesn't rain, you can still have water fun. A big piece of plastic and a sprinkler make a fun slip n'slide. Squirt guns and water balloons, even old dish detergent bottles, can make a refreshing battle in the backyard. Make sure you don't track wet muddy footprints through your mother's kitchen. Hopefully, you have a garden hose or outside faucet to refill them.

Painting with water is fun. Ask your parents for an old brush and a bucket of water. Swishing water on the back deck, the porch railings, or the back wall of the garage will change the color for a few minutes until it dries. You can make a design; let it dry, and try another design...and there's no clean up. (except for putting away the brush and bucket)

If you happen to live near a bubbly brook, you have the perfect place to build little bridges and dams and wading pools. You can make little "boats" from leaves or pieces of wood and watch them float down your little river.

Who needs fancy swimming pools or crowded beaches? There are lots of ways to keep cool with water in the summertime!

"Playmate, come out and play with me.
And bring your dollies three,
Climb up my apple tree.
Look down my rain barrel;
Slide down my cellar door,
And we'll be jolly friends forever more."

Used to sing that little ditty/clapping song as a girl - brought back some wonderful memories. I LOVE water fun (almost as much as the kids!).
Thanks for taking me back.
