Book Questions

Here's my answers to some questions about my favorite books:

1.Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?I don’t remember NOT being able to read. Our family didn’t own a television, so books were my friends. I read them over and over.

2. What are some books you read as a child? We had a collection of Children’s Treasury of Literature. I read them over and over… excerpts from Pinnochio, Heidi, Peter Pan, Jungle Book, etc.

3. What is your favorite genre? I like Biblical novels, especially if you can tell the author has spent time doing research into the cultures.

4. Do you have a favorite novel? Only one? …. At the Back of the North Wind

5. Where do you usually read? I read either in bed, or my recliner, or in waiting rooms.

6. When do you usually read? If I can’t sleep in the middle of the night, I sit in my recliner wrapped in a blanket and read…sometimes for hours if I want to see how it ends!

7. Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?Of course! I have a stack near my bed, near my chair, one in the car, etc.

8. Do you read nonfiction in a different way or place than you read fiction? I skim through fiction, just enjoying the plot. Nonfiction takes me longer because I stop often to think about it more carefully.

9. Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?I usually buy them at yard sales or Good Will or anywhere I can find them.

10. Do you keep most of the books you buy? If not, what do you do with them?Yes, I have shelves and shelves of books. I tried to clear out some to make more room…I found only about 5 that I felt I could part with.

11. If you have children, what are some of the favorite books you have shared with them? We read “Children’s Pilgrim Progress” several times.
We wore out many Golden Books. I have collected many classics for them… Robinson Crusoe, White Fang, Lassie Come Home, etc.

12. What are you reading now?Just finished Lois Lowrys’ new book, “The Willowbies” and “On Writing Well” by Wiliam Zinsser .

13. Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list? No, not a list, but a stack or shelf of the most recent ones I’ve gotten.

14. What’s next?“The Egg and I” by Betty MacDonald… recommended by a friend

15. What books would you like to reread? It depends on my mood. Some books I’ve read many times… Christy, Island of the Blue Dolphin, Where the Red Fern Grows, Dicey’s Song, At the Back of the North Wind

16. Who are your favorite authors?Miss Read, Jean Stratton Porter, Cynthia Voight, Jan Karon, George MacDonald, Francine Rivers, Max Lucado, Grace Livingstone Hill, Lois Lowry

Now, I have tagged Dee and Sara Answer these questions and find two other people to tag.

Have fun!

Okay - so who wrote "Back of the North Wind?" If it's your favorite, and I've never heard of it, I've GOTTA know!
Oh - and how do you keep all the stories straight if you're reading different books all the time? Wish I could! :)

George MacDonald wrote "At the Back of the North Wind".
It's an allegory about a boy in old England who talks to the wind, personified of an angel or the Holy Spirit. Over and over in the book, the North Wind teaches the boy to trust even though he doesn't understand. There's a lot truths of God in this book.
