The American/Christian Way

The American way of life is to have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It sounds un-patriotical and un-American, but I think our country has taken our freedoms too far. Have we become a selfish, arrogant people? Have we taught our children to be dissatisfied with simple things? Do we spend our thoughts and time and money on ourselves, not thinking of others?

Is that the Christian way of life? If we belong to the Lord, if we are yielded to the Spirit, if we want God’s will in our life, we don’t have those rights. “Ye are not your own; ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (I Cor. 6:20) “Let each esteem others better than themselves.” (Phil.2:3)

I can love my country and still love my Lord. I have the freedom to give up my personal desires for the good of others. I can choose to submit to the Lord’s will of being a stay-at-home-mother instead of pursuing a high-paying career. I am thankful that I can still worship as I wish in this country. I am thankful for the soldiers who have given, and are still giving, their lives for our country.

Lord, I pray for our country. Thank you for the privilege of being born here, but help us as Christians to use our freedoms and rights wisely. Give our country mercy, not what we deserve. Help us to teach our children to seek you and your ways. In Jesus' Name, Amen

How I love your heart and your passion for ministering to and challenging others. Great admonishment!

Amen - it is so easy to demand our "rights" when the only ones we REALLY have are those given us by God. Thank you for this, my friend.

You're so right, Vonnie. We forget that God is the One who provides our freedoms and rights in the first place. We've been spoiled in the US with always wanting our "rights" and wanting less and less to be servants for the Lord. Great reminder for Independence Day.
