NEW VERSE
John 14:16
"And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another Comforter,
that He may abide with you forever."
Jesus told his disciples that He was going away, but that He would send "another Comforter" - someone like Him, to be with them forever.
The Greek word for comforter means an advocate - one who speaks for us because we don't know what to say. We are so feeble and ignorant of what we should be or how we should act, God has given us Someone to come along beside us to help us and guide us.
II Corninthians 1:21,22
Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.
The "earnest" is a down-payment of God's full blessing. It is a promise that we are His forever. Just as a man gives a woman an engagement ring, promising to marry her, God has given us the Holy Spirit, promising to make us His forever.
The moment we believe and accept God's forgiveness, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. We are born into God's family. We are a new creation.
The Spirit teaches us, guides us, comforts us, and changes us. We begin to show the Spirit's characterstics- love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control.
He is in us, and we are in Him - forever and ever and ever!

I was wondering what that beautiful ring had to do with anything - so I continued reading of course. Love this devotional, such a wonderful reminder of His promise of enduring love and relationship with us!
Amen, Vonnie. His forever promise is all I need!
