Ordinary Lives. From a 2 z 4 u & me

CALEB AND CARTER!

Anyone who knows me, knows about my kids and grandkids- the best invention EVER!

For the last year, I have had the privilege of my oldest son Caleb living with us. He had been in Alaska for the last 5 years. We have also been caring for my oldest grandson, Carter. It takes both Caleb and me to keep up with Carter. He loves puzzles and books and cars, but he loves taking walks most of all.

Carter loves Caleb! He calls him "DahDoh"
Almost everyday, they stroll down the driveway to get the mail. Depending on the season, he throws snowballs, pets a neighbor's cat, climbs on the big rocks, tosses pebbles in the pond, plays in the red truck, rolls cars down the ramp, splashes through puddles, or collects acorns. Usually, they wait for Grampy to come home for lunch, so Carter can "drive" up the driveway - beeping the horn the whole way.

After lunch and Grampy goes back to work, Caleb gets a break. Carter and I lay down for a nap. I read a couple books and sing a few songs. He snuggles close until he finally falls asleep. I treasure these times, for they don't last forever.

Carter loves to be doing whatever Caleb is doing. His favorite chore is helping to get wood.

Last week, Caleb and Grampy and I took Carter to the shore. He was puzzled over the water level changing as the tide went out. Of course, he loved all the rocks!

Every day Carter learns something new. His face is changing. He's starting to talk and sing and pretend. He's growing up. Before we know it, he'll be playing basketball and riding bikes and going to school.

When his daddy finishes his training in the Marines and is stationed somewhere, we're really going to miss Carter. I hope he doesn't forget this time, but I'm not going to think about that right now... or I'll be crying again. I'm just going to be grateful for each day that we can be near him right now.

A Thousand Gratefuls

Don't forget to add your grateful comments to the growing list.

AWWW! What a sweet boy.

My great niece lived with me till she was two, so I know that bonding... and loss.
